Five famous Internet profiles will challenge each other in the world’s first radio controlled headphone race, created by the Urbanears collective. The players will settle the score with their own 3D-printed heads on wheels starting on June 2nd. The heads are controlled via wireless headphones with sound controlled technology, specially developed for the ‘Radio Heads’ race.

Among the contestants are Tobygames, Anna Akana and Strawburry17, each of them running popular channels on YouTube, and together with the other contestants, adding up a total of more than 10 million subscribers. Each player will race with a life-size replica of his or her own head, made of 3D printed plastic. The heads are mounted on four-wheel platforms from radio-controlled cars that will be controlled by the players.

“It’s great to meet up with Urbanears for a new, weird game like this. As far as I know, nothing even similar has ever been done. I’m really looking forward to steer my own 3D printed head with a pair of headphones,” says Jonas “Sp4zie” Ring.

Unique sound steering technology developed for the game

The wheeled heads are controlled by sound, via wireless headphones with Bluetooth technology. The driver steers and regulates the head’s speed by panning the channels and adjusting the volume with controls on a set of headphones.

Three-day tournament streamed online

The tournament is arranged and hosted by Swedish headphone maker Urbanears, which are also are developers of the sound control technology for the game. The races will be live-streamed online, where viewers can engage obstacles on the track, tweet to cheer for their favorite player and win prizes by claiming interactive fields on the track.

“We want our products to enable people to be creative and have fun. To make this possible we had to develop the technology to actually steer the heads by the volume and panning on the headphones,” says Oscar Axhede, co-founder and Brand Director at Urbanears.

In total there will be four races throughout a three-day tournament. The races will take place in Stockholm, June 2-4, and they will be live streamed on YouTube and on www.urbanears.com/radioheads
