Seth and Tazix kicked things things off to a good start. They made it easy for the party kids to get into their groove. Deliverance threw out some funky pumping tracks that I always love to hear. His placement in the lineup wasn't the best, but he pulled it off nicely. Spice was awesome! He had the crowd going off from start to finish. He is a cool DJ to watch because he really looks like he is having fun up there. I have always been a big fan of trance so Reckless was definitely one of my favorites. His mixes were good and his tracks were even better. Malicious Mike was amazing. When you say Florida you think wicked break beats, and Malicious is another reason why. He laid down the funky beats from beginning to end. Slip & Slide and MC Caddy Cad brought the night to a close in style. I haven't really listed to a lot of jungle but I found myself out on the dancefloor through most of their set.

Apparently there was not enough presold tickets so the show was cut down to 1 stage and most local DJ's lost their slots. Although the venue took a while to fill up, it did fill. And despite the tragic loss of one stage I think the show went off! During Reckless, Spice, and Malicious' sets the dance floor was packed tight. When I ran into Azim from Twisted later on he seemed to be pleased with the turnout. When I talked around with people the general crowd reaction was definitely positive. SOME WORDS FROM THE SPONSOR...... I was lucky enough to catch up with Azim, President of Twisted Productions, to talk about the party and the DJ scene in general. Check out the audio at the bottom of the page.

How did you come up with that name?

Last years party was Super Sonic Adventures, and we got a really cool graphic off of one of their cd's with sonic spinning on tables. And we decided to do a parody of that, kind of a reunion party sort of thing. So we decided to use Tales which is the second adventure of Sonic. So why not Twisted Tales right?

Did things go as planned?

The party was really good, and all the DJ's showed up. It wasn't as big as we wanted it to be cuz we've noticed kind of a downward trend in the scene right now, not as many kids are comin out. So we downsized it to one room, we had all the headliners play in the main room. And the party went off amazingly even better than I expected. Everyone loved it the music was really good. The visuals were awsome. We brought in 2 visuals companies Endorphin and Lush Plush from the island. And they did an awsome job of filling the place, making look really old school. Not just your regular boring riverside setup. And for me it was nice to be at the Riverside Hall again because we've been doing parties there for 5 to 6 years now. And this was the second party there in the last 6 months.

Why was only one stage opened?

Well we knew at a certain point that we werent going to pull the people that we wanted to pull. So we cut the second room, cut some of the locals and moved all the headliners to the main room. About 800 people were there over the course of the night, maybe 900 if you really are counting everyone. And 900 people in two rooms including the balcony is very spread thin. I didthin. I didnt want to throw a party that looked empty. At the start of the night I had a whole bunch of people coming up to me asking me when the second room was gonna open. But at the end of the night I dont think I had any complaints really. People got to hear all the types of music they wanted to. We started off with trance, and then we went into some disco with Deliverance, and then Greg C., Greg C. got to play because he was the other partner of Super Sonic last year. So we made sure he got a good set. And then we went straight into the headliners, Spice played an awsome breaks set. Reckless was dope, it was unfortunate because Reckless had hoped that he was getting a 2 hour set, so he had planned all his bomb tracks, his last 5 really bomb really new tracks for the end of his set. But he didnt get to play them because he didnt know he was only playing for an hour and a half. Then Malicious Mike came on and rocked the house like we all knew he would. And it was cool to have the Junglist in the morning, we had the junglists on for 2 1/2 hours. And they came up to me after and they were like "You know we're only used to playing an hour combined" Slip and Slide combined only usually play for an hour in Toronto because the lineup is so huge. And this time they got to be like real DJ's and they got to have the artistic flow of going for a whole 2 1/2 hours, 1 hour 15 each and they loved it. Alot of people that werent normally junglist fans stuck around till the end. We actually had one guy throw his glow sticks at Slip at the very beginning of his set, going what is this? And he wasn't used to hearing it in the main room, and he was pretty aggravated about it. But he left and other than that everyone else seemed to hang around.

How did you go about selcting the dj's for this show?

Alot of it had to do with availability. But lets say someone like Malicious Mike in particular. We've been working on bring in alot of the Eastern Breaks Movement (EBM) and Xquisit Records DJs out. Like Gumby and X, and now its Malicious Mike. And it's gonna be Debbie D next. We're trying to build up a core following for breaks still. Like alot of our friends ET Brothers, Exert have concentrated on the whole Tony Faline crew, like Tony Faline and Rick West and guys like that. In the past I have brought out Mike and Charlie, who in their time were the biggest breaks producers. Now we've focussed a bit more on the EBM crew and Xquisit Records crew. As for Slip & Slide I had the option of bringing them out because another promoter wanted to bring them out in Kelowna the weekend before and we were able to split the costs. It's very rare that a Kelowna party can have headliners like that out. So we wanted to help them out. We havent had the Toronto guys out since Simple in November when we're used to having these guys out every 2 months. Spice played a party for me last year, an Absolute party, its good to have him out again. Reckless is a regular, he's on Twisted now. He's got a very good sound, and he's starting to get some major residencies in some major clubs in the UK.
