London, 21 June 2012 – EMI Music is today launching Electrospective, an impressive multi-platform campaign celebrating the development of electronic music since 1958 and the earliest days of technological innovation at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, through to the rise of current dance music superstars including David Guetta and Deadmau5.
Electrospective brings together the EMI Music, Mute and Virgin catalogues chronicling the key works of visionaries like Kraftwerk and Brian Eno to the groundbreaking success of Depeche Mode and The Human League, the explosion of electronic dance music in the late 80s and the rise of global stars like Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers.
Electrospective - a collaboration between artists, labels, commercial, technological, digital and media partners – kicks off with the launch of Electrospective.com and runs through to November 2012. There will be a host of opportunities to discover and rediscover electronic music including exclusive key artist, DJ and producer interviews, app launches, merchandise, social and print media activities.
Some Electrospective activities include:
- The release of a double CD compilation and an album of rare and unreleased mixes
- Global promotion of 550 seminal electronic music albums via physical and digital music outlets
- A dedicated Electrospective online store
- An artist roundtable event at London location in partnership with Mojo, Mixmag, Future Music magazines and supporting technology partners.
- A new website Electrospective.com
- An OpenEMI developer ‘sandbox’ for developers to create new digital concepts and products (launching in July 2012)
- An innovative Electrospective Spotify app helping fans join the dots between artists and discover new and exciting content (August 2012)
- Competitions to win once in a lifetime prizes as well as merchandise, music software & hardware, albums and gig tickets.
- A wide range of social media platforms streaming rare and unseen interview and video content
- Electrospective marketing platforms will also support new artist launches from the EMI Dance Network
EMI Music’s consumer research shows dance/electronic music to be the third most popular music genre globally with particularly high interest amongst 16-34 year olds, and Electrospective will encourage electronic music fans to engage with and delve deeper into the genre as well as appealing to music fans in general.
There will be a series of competitions running through to November, giving fans the chance to win all the albums in the campaign, a Kraftwerk CD box set, a T-shirt signed by the 50 of the most influential people in electronic music, a original signed Nord Drum and much more. Merchandise including iconic logo T-shirts and limited vinyl LPs will be available to purchase from the Electrospective online store, as will products from Mute Records, including the highly collectable Mute Synth and Mute Audio Documents 1978-1984, a 10 CD set of rare electronic singles.
The Electrospective Roundtable event will take place at a London location in July featuring dance music heavyweights in conversation with early electronic music pioneers who will discuss a range of topics focusing on the development of technology, music and culture.
David Rowe, EMI Music’s Vice President of Global Campaigns, said: “EMI has enjoyed more than 50 years of success with electronic music artists and labels, as demonstrated by the depth and breadth of the albums featured in the campaign. With Electrospective we have a unique chance to work with the genre’s biggest names in order to share this inspiring story with fans on a global level.”
“The response we have had to Electrospective from our creative, commercial and technology partners has been extremely positive. I would especially like to thank Mute’s Daniel Miller and Wall of Sound/Back To The Phuture’s Mark Jones for their unwavering support, as well all of the artists, producers, DJs and managers that have given their time to be involved in the Electrospective campaign so far.”
