Insomniac's first EDC Colombia lands at the Atanasio Girardot sports complex in Medellín on 10 and 11 October, with local partner Paramo Presenta and more than 80 artists. The day-by-day billing is public. The set times are not. What is public instead is the names of the rooms.
kineticFIELD, circuitGROUNDS, neonGARDEN, bionicJUNGLE and stereoBLOOM all make the trip, and Factory 93, Dreamstate and Time Warp are taking over stages across the weekend. For a crowd that has never walked this festival before, that is a usable map. Nobody needs a schedule to work out that the Dreamstate hours are trance and the Time Warp hours are techno. You pick a room first and find out later who is in it. The day split added weight across the same spread: Goldie and dubstep-metal act Sullivan King on the bass side, Axel Boman and Derout in house and techno, Gaia, Zoila and Lunnatica in trance and psytrance.
New York, 2012
On 20 April 2012 we published the lineup for EDC's New York debut, produced by Insomniac with a local partner, Pacha New York, at MetLife Stadium.
It arrived sorted by day and by stage. kineticFIELD. circuitGROUNDS hosted by Bassrush on the Friday and A State of Trance on the Saturday. neonGARDEN hosted by Pacha New York, then Carl Cox & Friends, then Richie Hawtin presents ENTER. on the Sunday. Armin van Buuren and Chase & Status were billed on the mainstage for opening night.
Hawtin and van Buuren are both on the Colombia bill fourteen years on. The trance takeover is Dreamstate now instead of A State of Trance, and the techno one carries Time Warp's name rather than Carl Cox's, but the shape has not changed: debut city, local partner, stadium, rooms named first.
Medellín stops one step earlier than New York did. The stage worlds have names and the days have artists, but which act plays which room is still unpublished, and so are the Saturday and Sunday sunrise sets, which EDM Identity expects alongside the timetable. Sunrise is usually the set people talk about afterwards. It'll be the last one named.
