Tech trade-in site Decluttr has announced the appointment of retail heavyweight Anthony Catterson as its new President, based at its headquarters in Atlanta.
Decluttr, which is part of UK-based Entertainment Magpie, launched in the US in 2014, and the appointment comes off the back of a year of stellar growth for Decluttr, having more than doubled revenues in the last 12 months to a run rate in excess of $50m, with its consumer electronics category climbing to over 50% of total revenue for the first time.
The company was recently showcased on national TV show Good Morning America as being the ‘best place in the US to sell your iPhone’. In addition, Decluttr is on the brink of securing the industry recognised R2 quality accreditation, and has completed a significant growth capital deal from the AURELIUS Finance Group which will help fuel further growth in the US.
Catterson is a former Senior Vice President of Sprint and prior to his role there, was Managing Director of both Carphone Warehouse and Phones4u in the UK. More recently he was Global CEO of the listed online technology retailer eXpansys. He has extensive experience of working in both the UK and US and has led both public and private multi-channel retail and B2B businesses through rapid growth phases, ranging from small start-ups to those generating $20B+ in annual revenues.
Across the Entertainment Magpie group, which includes Decluttr and sister site musicMagpie, sales revenues for FYE 2019 are forecast to hit $170m. Together with Catterson’s appointment and the recent growth capital deal, overall growth of the business is set to further accelerate rapidly within the next few months.
Steve Oliver, co-founder and CEO of Entertainment Magpie, said: “We have huge plans for the Decluttr brand and believe that Anthony is the right person to implement our vision and turn Decluttr into an even bigger success. The business has experienced massive growth in the last 12 months and Anthony’s appointment is crucial to take the business forward and continue momentum on its recent successes.”
Anthony Catterson, said: “Decluttr is a brand that I have seen grow rapidly over the last few years and it’s great to be working with Steve and the rest of the group’s senior management team to plan for our next phase of growth. The recent growth capital deal the business has completed, coupled with the hard work of the entire team on both sides of the Atlantic means that Decluttr is perfectly positioned to capitalise on the major growth opportunities in the re-commerce and consumer electronics sector in the US, and I am thrilled to be joining such an ambitious team.”
Building on the group’s current successes, Decluttr is soon to be R2 accredited. This is the electronic recycling industry’s leading certification, and the R2 Standard is designed to help ensure the quality, transparency, and environmental and social responsibility, of R2 Certified electronics recycling facilities. This is a critical element of the company’s unique positioning and strategy in the US.
Founded by Steve Oliver and Walter Gleeson in 2007 out of Steve’s garage, Entertainment Magpie is now one of the biggest e-commerce resellers of new and pre-owned consumer electronics (cell phones, tablets and laptops) and media in the world. The company is the world’s largest third-party seller on Amazon and eBay, and has won numerous industry awards.
