It has been decades since music has been as politicized as it is today. Musicians are spending their own money to place anti-war advertisements in magazines, award acceptance speeches contain allusions to a burgeoning sense of fear, music groups are at the forefront of many anti-war rallies and on March 7, an unprecedented example: Tony Blair will be on UK's MTV to answer questions by European youth.
"MTV Forum With Tony Blair: Is War the Answer?" will be a sixty-minute direct question and answer session. There will be young adults (ages 16 24) of British, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Iraqi, Palestinian, and American nationality asking Tony Blair questions on the situation in Iraq and England's position.
Michiel Bakker, Managing Director MTV Network UK & Ireland says about the forum, "We believe it's crucial that the debate on war with Iraq is not one conducted by men in suits, and that young people have a meaningful dialogue with those in power. I'm delighted that we're able to give young people from Britain and elsewhere the opportunity to put their questions to the prime minister in an open forum and to hear his responses to their concerns."
MTV watchers are also encouraged to voice their opinions by using the MTV message board.
The show will air across the networks 129 million homes in the UK and Europe, as well as on MTV channels in the Middle East, Australia, Asia, Latin America and the US to a total of 300 million homes worldwide.
