Indie pop/folk/electro duo STRANGERS YOU KNOW has announced their official SXSW showcase performance, “The GRAMMY Museum Presents Homegrown Los Angeles,” will take place Friday, March 18 at Tap Room at The Market in Austin, TX (319 Colorado St.). The Los Angeles-based duo will perform at 8pm and other artists on the bill include The New Regime, SWIMM, Kitten, Grizfolk, and Phases; more details here.
The SXSW performance will come one week after the release of their new EP, LOOSEN UP THE LEASH, due out Friday, March 11. The six-track disc includes the current single “Used,” which charted in the Top 10 (#8) on Spotify‘s U.S. and Global Viral charts with over 600,000 plays. SiriusXM’s AltNation has also been an early supporter of the track, featuring it on their Advanced Placement show for several weeks. Listen to “Used” here.
STRANGERS YOU KNOW will celebrate the EP’s release with a special album release party and hometown show March 11 at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles; tickets are on sale now. This show will be an opportunity to catch an intimate performance before the band hits the road for a heavy festival season that, in addition to SXSW, includes back-to-back weekend performances at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, April 15-17 and April 22-24 in Indio, CA, HANGOUT Music Festival May 20-22 in Gulf Shores, AL, BottleRock Napa Valley happening May 27-29 in Napa Valley, CA and the Firefly Music Festival June 16-19 in Dover, DE. See below for full tour schedule.
STRANGERS YOU KNOW is no stranger to the festival scene. In fact, the pair–Grady Lee (vocals, guitar) and Adam Haagen (piano, guitar, vocals, banjo, mandolin)–met three years ago by happenstance in the heart of the desert as attendees of the iconic Coachella Music and Arts Festival. Bonding over synths, beats, guitars, lyrics and melody, the foundation of STRANGERS YOU KNOW was born.
Grady and Adam wrapped up 2015 by releasing two new songs dubbed Pre/Post—“Queen Of Venice Beach (Oowee)” and “Shoot Me Down”–both available as free downloads via their SoundCloud. The two tracks showcase the pair’s range and versatility musically, while also aligning together lyrically to share a complete story about the complexities of young love. A lyric music video for “Queen Of Venice Beach (Oowee)” premiered via their Hangout Festival webpage. It has since been seen nearly 40,000 times; watch it now here.
