This past Saturday (Nov 12) at a packed Sound Academy venue in Toronto, Canada, over 1000 party-goers came to witness the country's top party rocking DJs compete to see who is Canada’s best! The winner would move on to the Red Bull 3Style World Finals. Each DJ performed a 15-minute set that included at least 3 different musical genres and would be judged on track selection, creativity, mixing skills, stage presence, and crowd reaction.
After all was spun and done the judges had 2 members of Canada’s top DJ crew, EH! TEAM DJS, finish out on top! DRASTIK - last year’s defending Canadian 3Style Champion - would see himself finish 2nd to his own crew member DJ HEDSPIN: a first-time Red Bull 3Style Canadian Champion! The victory came as a “shock”, said Hedspin of his placing.
To those that follow the Eh! Team DJs, however, there was nothing shocking about it. The Canadian DJ Collective consisting of Hedspin (Vancouver) and Drastik (Ottawa), as well as Team Canada (Grandtheft and D.R. One of Montreal), Pump (Calgary) and Illo (Ottawa) and have established a reputation not only in Canada but around the World, ever since they came together in 2007.
Hedspin’s return to the Red Bull 3Style stage comes 3 years after winning the Red Bull 3Style competition in Vancouver.
At that time in 2008, the now international competiton was seeing its seeds planted in Vancouver. Come 2009, the competition expanded to a national level in Canada and in 2010 it flourished internationally, as the first World 3Style Champion was crowned. Fittingly, Hedspin returns to represent Canada in December, at the World Finals in Vancouver: his hometown where it all started.
From now until December expect to be seeing a lot of updates from Hedspin and Drastik: there is still work to be done. Rocking parties is their job, their passion and their life. Whether it’s in their respective city’s or doing dates across Canada, they’ll be seen and heard DJing some of the best parties.
