In efforts to give back to the community of Bethel, NY for hosting Mysteryland USA this Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-25, Mysteryland was thrilled to host their second Mysteryland / 10.000 HOURS Community Day this past weekend on Saturday, April 18, 2015. The 10.000 HOURS foundation is an international organization that brings like minded people and festival goers together to give back to the community that hosts their beloved music festivals.
“The concert itself brings economic opportunity, it brings jobs here. And then, for them to give back in this way, this is just a great partner, and these are the kind of people that we would love to have here and get this place rocking,” said Bethel Town Supervisor Daniel Sturm.
Committed to supporting the local community, Mysteryland along with 10.000 HOURS brought a hand-selected group of 50 volunteers from a pool of nearly 1,000 applicants to join the Mysteryland team in donating their time and efforts to the beautification of the town’s parks. Acknowledging the support and wonderful environment the Town of Bethel has created for Mysteryland USA for the second year in a row, Mysteryland also presented a check for $10,000 to the Town of Bethel.
Throughout the day, volunteers took on the town’s needs in regards to park trails and gardens including removing dead foliage, raking leaves, mulching, fertilizing garden beds and overall cleanup. In addition, volunteers painted the newly constructed garden utility shed donated by Mysteryland. Getting in on the action, staff from the Bethel Parks and Recreations Department, and members of the Town Board of Bethel and Sullivan Renaissance joined the efforts with their knowledge of the landscape, gardening and town needs. Children and camp counselors that registered for the local summer camp, who frequently use the Bethel Youth Garden throughout the summer months, were also invited to come for some fun and games. A special thanks to owner Jerry from local restaurant Sorella in catering a delicious lunch for the volunteers.
Mysteryland would like to give special thanks to the Town Board, Daniel Strum, Bernard Cohen, Lillian Hendrickson, Dawn Ryder and Vicky Simpson for their hard work and cooperation in the production of Mysteryland USA 2015. Also special thanks to Town Board Park Liaison, Vicky Simpson, Denise Frangipane from Sullivan Renaissance and William Crumley, Highway Superintendent for their hard work and dedication towards the 10.000 HOURS community day.
