This year the International Festival of Benicassim (FIB) will be held August 8 10. The FIB will not only focus on music. It will have exhibits and recitals representing other forms of art (cinema, sculpture, dance, net art, etc.). The FIB also has a mandate of encouraging and supporting emerging artists.
There are already 100 acts and DJs confirmed to perform. Most noteworthy is Adult., Badly Drawn Boy, Beck, Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man, Beth Orton, Blur, Chicks on Speed, Death in Vegas, Green Velvet (DJ set), Groove Armada, DJ Hell, Layo & Bushwacka!, Louie Austen, Magas, Miss Kittin, Moloko, Placebo, Romina Cohn, Si Begg, Swayzak, Tiga, and Travis.
Besides established music acts Lou Anne will also be playing. Lou Anne is a Spanish group which won the FIB demo contest in April, 2003.
The FIB starts August 8th but the festivities will start in the middle of July. During the last two weeks of July there will be an outdoors exhibition of contemporary art. As well, seven artists have been selected to make large works of art which will be built in different places and are to be designed to suit the environment chosen. The artists will commence July 28 and the pieces will stay erect 'til the end of the summer. Net Art will also be on display.
There will also be an exposition of short films (August 1 5). These shorts will then be put up to a panel of judges and the public for the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Short Video. During the festival emerging fashion designers will also be showcasing their wares and competing for a prize of 5000 .
There will be a free (traditional) dance recital at the Playa del Torren in Benicassim on August 6. The goal of this recital is to introduce a more classical form of art and expression to a younger audience.
