FORTHCOMING ‘MODERN HAPPINESS’ ALBUM OUT
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5
![]() Critically acclaimed and platinum-selling artist ERIC HUTCHINSON today (7/24) has released “hands”–one of the many personal songs on his upcoming MODERN HAPPINESS album–along with an essay about how the song came to be and how inspiration was born from his father’s myotonic dystrophy journey.
The song, essay and video (created in partnership with the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation) can be found on Medium.com here.
Except from Eric’s essay:
“I wrote ‘hands’ as a tribute to my dad, Royal Hutchinson, who has bravely pressed on for so many of his years, when it would’ve been a hell of a lot easier to just give up…I decided that ‘hands’ was a song I should record alone, just me and this guitar with over 50 years of Hutchinson family history.” Click here to read the full essay.
On MODERN HAPPINESS, his fifth full-length studio album, ERIC dives into the human condition and the need of many who rely on anti-depressants to find their “modern happiness.” Eric says, “This album is the first music I’ve written since I started taking Prozac and the lyrics are very much about my eternal search for purpose, contentment and meaning.”
HUTCHINSION–a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer–is known for his unforgettable presence, high-energy singalongs, and live musicality. To introduce the record, which encompasses rock, pop and rootsy stylings in a collection of songs that are deeply personal, he opted for an unconventional and forward-thinking rollout. Over the course of 2018, he’ll drop one track per month at DSPs through October 5 when the final song arrives and tour is underway.
Once again, HUTCHINSON returned behind the board as producer for the new album. Simultaneously, he drew a spotlight on the talents of his band THE BELIEVERS—Elliott Blaufuss (Guitars, Keys & Vocals), the rhythm section of Ian Allison (Bass & Vocals) and Bryan Taylor (Drums, Percussion & Vocals)–and guest vocalist Jessie Payo. Together, they build an unpredictable sonic backdrop for the vocalist to deliver one provocative, passionate, and powerful tune after another. It’s his most immersive and irresistible body of work yet.
Meanwhile, HUTCHINSON recently announced his fall “Modern Happiness” Tour. Headlined by HUTCHINSON and his band THE BELIEVERS, the 25-date tour kicks off October 4 at Infinity Hall in Norfolk, CT and stops in major cities such as New York City, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Seattle, among many others, before wrapping in Honolulu, HI with a two-night stand at Blue Note Hawaii November 10 and 11.
