The latest from Jean-Michel Jarre’s collaboration discovery project Electronica 1: The Time Machine—due out October 16 on Ultra Music–comes “If…!,” a sparkling electro-pop track created with U.K. songwriter and producer Little Boots (Victoria Hesketh). The pioneering French artist has made available both the song’s video and track story; see the links below.
Says Jarre on his teaming with Little Boots: “I first discovered Victoria playing the laser harp, which is an instrument I created years ago for the stage where, instead of strings, you have laser beams, and you can play notes by hitting the beams. I use the instrument on the Boys Noize track, ‘The Time Machine.’” He adds: “Victoria’s quite unique–she has a great knowledge of synthesizers and all sorts of strange instruments. She’s a very accomplished musician. It was really interesting to work with her; I consider her like a little sister, in a sense. Our collaboration is clearly in the electropop direction.”
To support the song, the two artists paired for the track story where they converse about their collaboration, offering the back story on how they came together and their thoughts on the result. There is also a surrealistic music video.
