It was a regular Friday at work and I was doing my best job wasting company time by engaging in a marathon myspace session with the goal of finding new music. I was determined to not only find producers with tracks that made me want to dance! but with tour dates that brought them to Vancouver asap. I finished the marathon with only ten more minutes to go in the workday and victory: three party dates inserted into my Outlook calendar, a list of new producers to obsess about and a new favourite record label: Ed Banger
Ed really knows what makes a girl want to dance! Its not pure electronica, or conventional hip hop and it certainly isnt cock rock. Its the best beats of all worlds and pressed onto a perfectly symmetrical disc.
The producers of note are Justice, SebastiAn, Vicarious Flash, and Busy P. Youll also find Uffie, Krazy Baldhead, Mr. Flash, DJ Medhi, and a whole swack more. Theyre all over the musical board so it makes for great party music because every person in the room will rock out at least at some point. I think Ed figured out the genius of having such a variety and thats why he decided to put out a compilation (Ed Banger Records Vol. 1). Its a sure thing for those impromptu parties that dont have turntables or someone designated to making people dance!
On it youll find all those producers and more. Somehow the selection doesnt make me want to dance! Its like the one and only song by each of my new fave producers has been chosen for this comp. If its not one thing, its another and the Ed Banger signature mix of all things danceable gets lost by beats that sound dysfunctional and I cant digest. Maybe Vol. 2 will work out better for me or, with time, my ear will figure out where the beauty lies.
While I wait for Volume 2 to come out Ive got my work cut out for me. Uffie is on tour and comes to Vancouver on Wednesday, February 14 (at the Lamplighter) and I have some lyrics to memorize before then. Justice, SebastiAn, Busy P and DJ Medhi are touring together and they hit Vancouver on March 25th and Im so stoked Ive taken the next day off from work so I can dance! like I was meant to when hearing Ed Bang as fucking hard as he does.
