Beatport has put the AI question somewhere DJs actually feel it: before a record reaches the cart.

The store's 12 August policy post still says fully or majority AI-generated tracks will be withheld from Beatport, while AI-assisted music can be tagged for its curation team. A producer using a stem tool, a writing assistant or a generative texture is still in the room. A track where the system becomes the main artist is a different sell.

Beatport is making that call at ingestion, not after a buyer has built a crate around it. The company says music made with AI assistance can stay if the finished track remains majority human-made, and Beatdapp's detection is meant to distinguish fully generated tracks from AI-assisted ones. Beatport also says rightsholders get notified when a track is withheld.

For a DJ, that is less philosophy than receipt-checking. You are not buying a background stream. You are putting your name behind a record in a set, paying for the file, reading the label, trusting the artist line and imagining what happens when it hits a room. Beatport says 60 percent of surveyed users would not play AI-generated tracks in their sets, while 8 percent were open to it and 13 percent would consider it if artists and labels were fairly compensated.

Spotify is attacking a different part of the same trust problem. Its AI Persona badge is not a detector for AI-made tracks. Spotify's current artist-support page says the badge appears on profiles, in mobile Search and on track rows across playlists. It is about public identity: whether a profile represents an AI-generated persona rather than a real person. Artists can self-disclose, and Spotify can apply a "Likely AI Persona" badge after review, with an appeal path.

We have been here before, just from another entrance. In July, Deezer's AI-upload numbers made credits feel like the first thing to check. In August, Suno's German ruling moved the question toward licensing. Beatport brings that pressure to the store shelf. If "AI-assisted" and "AI-generated" mean the same thing by the time a DJ is digging, the checkout has already lost the plot.
